About

Pablo Sablo

Pablo Sablo emerged as a bodhrán conjurer and singer on Gnostic Druid’s 1983 classic “Stoney Bridge” as the altar ego of guitarist Paul Burton. “I sing as Pablo Sablo to free my voice from my ego,” says Burton. “Though it may be a bigger ego trip to claim to be able to vocalize through an imaginary, surreal character.”

Paul Burton is a guitarist and song maker with over 40 years of experience playing many kinds of traditional and original world musics in various combos. Burton’s original music reflects his eclectic musical tastes — playing Celtic, Reggae, African Soukous and Highlife, Brazilian Samba and Bossa Nova, Blues, Folk, Jazz, and fusions of different genres.

“It’s the Poetry, Man! Volume I, Reimagining Roots,” is a collection of poems by William Blake, Hart Crane, William Shakespeare, and Percy Bysshe Shelley with music by Paul in various musical styles. Recorded in Oakland, California in 2022, the album features a stellar supporting cast of great musicians: Bay Area jazz stalwarts Curtis Ohlson (bass) and Josh Jones (drums), Bill Rhea Bell (violin), Anthony Flesch (flute), and vocalist Cyoakha Grace.
